QUIET- So hard to find today. Our lives are like a person walking alongside a busy highway. As the cars and trucks whoosh by, they can sometimes be dangerous, and the sound can be deafening. As the events of our lives scream by we have a built-in need to "get away from it all." We need times of solitude. We crave quiet moments where we can just relax and catch our breath. How do you find quiet? Psalm 23:2, "...He leads me beside quiet waters...” Where can you go to capture the quiet, restful margins you need to build into your life? We all need to find a physical place we can find to be alone, away from the roaring rat race, to calm down and reconnect with ourselves. Can you discover a room, a corner, a setting where you can turn down the noise, tune out the noisy world and try to regain some solitude? We also need to find a spiritual quiet place for our hearts. There is the old hymn that starts, "There is a place of quiet rest, near to the heart of God....” That's where we can find true balance and peace and harmony. That is where our hearts yearn to go. Near to God's heart. Like a baby hugging its mother, our spirits can find restful quiet in God. Zephaniah 3:17 says, "...He will quiet you with His love...” We can allow our hearts to be protected from the wearying pace of life by turning to the Author of life. We can find delight in the Lord and discover He delights in us, and wants simply to spend quiet time with us. We'll regain energy and balance to live healthier lives. It is in the quiet places of the heart that we can hear God's loving whispers. 1 Thessalonians 4:11, "...make it your ambition to lead a quiet life...”
In addition to our normal ambitions to get ahead we also need to cultivate
the healthy ambition to stop and experience the quiet our souls need.
We'll get run over on the highway of life if we don't turn off regularly
- even daily -
May we find that special place and the attitude of quiet our souls so desperately seek.
