The dedication and blessing of the Habitat home
for one of our church families was celebrated on September 9, 2001, with
Pastor Gary Downing leading the ceremony. Many thanks to all who
supported the family by volunteering their labor or providing food for
the workers. |
But our work isn't done! Of the eight families
Rochester Habitat has selected to earn houses in the next couple of years,
four have connections to RCC! Two families worships with our congregation,
and two are part of the Sudanese congregation worshiping in our facility.
You can donate your time to help these families work towards owning their
own homes.
If you're interested in helping out just call
the Habitat Office (252-0849) and when prompted press 4, then 2.
You will get a recording that will give you the current work site information.
Work proceeds as the weather permits. Houses will be enclosed during
the fall to allow for interior progress during the winter months.
Onsite work days are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
from 9 am to 4 pm. You don't need to bring any tools; of course if
you prefer to use your own tools, bring them! Remember to sign in
the log book at the construction site and indicate that you are contributing
your hours to help a family earn their sweat equity hours.
Volunteers are used in many ways in addition to
pounding nails. One of them is making lunch for the workers on site.
(And the hours you spend doing this will also count for the family.)
This is an opportunity to hone your building,
landscaping, or cooking skills in a Christian service opportunity to provide
affordable housing to God's people in need. |
