Asian Mission Sunday:  Recognizing those who came from or went to Asia serving our Lord

"And you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." Acts 1:8b.
Rochester Covenant Church has always taken this commission from Jesus seriously.  We support financially and/or with prayer the individuals and organizations listed on the Meet the Missionaries page.  Five of these are "children" of our church:    David Jiang, Bonnie Jinmon, Ken Olson, Leanna Williams, and Janet Williamson Coile.

Many of our members have taken the challenge of personal involvement in missions seriously and have spent time on mission trips to Chile, Mexico, Alaska, Haiti, Katrina relief, Ukraine and several African countries.  We are privileged to have visits from overseas missionaries on an on-going basis.

We have an international Sunday School class to minister to our international friends, helping them with citizen preparation, Bible study, and general ESOL topics.

We hold classes and seminars to help members in personal evangelism.  Our youth are active in missions, serving on Youth Choir tour and mission trips.

Keeping the congregation informed
The Missions Commission attempts to keep members informed of the work being done by the missionaries we support.

  • A mission bulletin board is maintained in fellowship hall. It has a map of the world indicating where each missionary works and includes photographs of the missionaries and their families. For those who are interested, there are also notebooks with the latest newsletters from them.  Missionaries' addresses and email are included there for those who would like to write to them.
  • A tri-fold brochure titled "Please Bless the Missionaries" is located in the narthex.  It lists the addresses of all supported missionaries and some ways you can pray for them.  The Covenant Missionary Prayer Calendars are also available in the pew racks and in the narthex.
  • A missionary of the week is listed each Sunday in the bulletin and is also included in the Chronicle.  This usually includes a short biography and current prayer requests from the missionary.
  • We publish letters of the missionaries in the Chronicle.  Short biographies are included here on the web site.
  • Mission moments are provided for visiting missionaries during the worship hour.  This provides them with a few minutes to update the congregation on the current status of their work.  Several such missionaries visited us in 2003.
We continue to host our Sudanese brothers and sisters for their regular Sunday afternoon worship meetings.
