"And you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." Acts 1:8b.
Rochester Covenant Church has always taken this Commission from Jesus seriously. We support financially and/or with prayer, many individuals and organizations in our mission fields. Several are "children" of our church: Gina Brenna, David Jiang, Ken Olson, Mike Bartels, and Janet Williamson Coile.
Many of our members have taken the challenge of personal involvement in missions seriously and have spent time on mission trips to Chile, Mexico, Alaska, Haiti, Katrina relief, Ukraine and several African countries. We are privileged to have visits from overseas and regional missionaries on an on-going basis.
Why go on a mission experience? HOPE! It comes in different packages: by serving food, hammering nails, carrying sand or bricks, playing with children, eating with people who are honored by our friendships with them. When we give them our investment of time, money, energy and prayer, they give us their hearts. And we discover that Jesus can use any of us to make a difference as we make new friends. And we are given the gift of hope despite difficult circumstances. (Contact RCC for more information and to register.)
We hold classes and seminars to help members in personal evangelism. Our youth are active in missions, serving in local and international mission trips. We are developing a partnership with a church in CANCUN, MEXICO.
Keeping the congregation informed
The Missions Commission attempts to keep members informed of the work being done by the missionaries we support.
- The Covenant Missionary Prayer Calendars are available in the pew racks and in the narthex.
- A missionary of the week is listed each Sunday in the bulletin and is also included in the Chronicle. This usually includes a short biography and current prayer requests from the missionary.
- We publish letters of the missionaries in the Chronicle.
- Mission moments are provided for visiting missionaries during the worship hour. This provides them with a few minutes to update the congregation on the current status of their work.
